Public Humanities Fellow Project, Reel Memories, Launches!
Sarah Choi’s project, Reel Memories, embraces home movies as artifacts instrumental in remembering and reimagining Asian American histories. Reel Memories seeks to create a communal space for sharing domestic cinema recorded by families from the Greater Seattle Area. This intentional engagement with home movies is an attempt at addressing the urgency of preserving and amplifying Asian American cultural memories which, in this case, are entangled in the precarious materiality of celluloid film.
The first public screening of the Reel Memories project will highlight local home movies from the Koura family, UW Special Collections, and Bainbridge History Museum.
Please join us for an afternoon of historic films and storytelling at the iconic Japanese Baptist Church in Seattle. Doors open at 12:45 pm.
